

Dr Dharmaraj Durai
Consultant Gastroenterologist, University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.
Dharmaraj qualified as a doctor in 1995 and after completing his postgraduate training in the UK, he entered higher specialist training in gastroenterology with research on quality in gastrointestinal endoscopy. Dharmaraj obtained a PhD from the University of Wales, Swansea in 2005 and in 2006 became a consultant gastroenterologist and currently works at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
Dharmaraj has a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and has been actively involved in research and published several articles in scientific journals. He acted as the Secretary to the Welsh Association for Gastroenterology and Endoscopy (WAGE) for 3 years and is an active member of the IBD research section of the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) and was involved in the IBD guideline development group. He is also a Principal Investigator for several portfolio studies.
As the Health and Care Research Wales Speciality Lead for Gastroenterology he hopes to broaden research in gastroenterology in Wales for the benefit of patients, all healthcare professionals and trainees.
