Jan Bornschein (MD, habil.) trained in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at the University of Magdeburg, Germany, before conducting postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge, funded by the German Research Society. He held an Honorary Consultant role at Cambridge University Hospital and later led GI oncology at the University Hospital of Regensburg (2016–2017) before becoming a Consultant Gastroenterologist in Oxford.
