Prof Karen Robinson

GI Infections and Immunity, NIHR Nottingham Digestive Diseases Biomedical Research Centre, Nottingham.

Karen Robinson is Professor of GI Infections and Immunity, based in the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre at the University of Nottingham. She is currently the General Secretary of the Microbiology Society, a membership charity and not-for-profit publisher that connects and empowers microbiologists worldwide. She has been researching Helicobacter pylori for over 20 years, mainly working to improve understanding of why disease outcomes arise. Her work has mainly focused on H. pylori virulence factors and the host immune response. Since 2019, however, the focus of her work changed to characterising antibiotic susceptibility of the clinical isolates gathered in Nottingham since 2003, understanding the prevalence of resistant isolates and the underlying genetic mechanisms of resistance.
