Meet the Speakers

Dr Muhammad Nisar completed dual speciality training in the East of England, and was subsequently appointed Consultant Rheumatologist and Physician at Bedfordshire Hospitals National Health Service Foundation Trust (NHSFT), where he is currently Director of Research and Development. He is an elected clinical entrepreneur and member of the British Society of Rheumatology (BSR) Heberden committee.
He is the lead clinician for an award winning early arthritis service, as well as metabolic bone health delivery, research on advanced therapies and inflammatory arthritis associated lung diseases Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) service. Dr Nisar has been involved in more than 80 clinical trials utilising advanced therapies for autoimmune and skeletal conditions. He has won several awards from prestigious bodies including the NHS, Royal College of Physicians (RCP) and British Society for Rheumatology (BSR). His other main interests include early inflammatory arthritis including ultrasound use and crystal arthritides.

Dr Dissanayaka Ranjith is a Consultant Physician and Ortho-Geriatrician. He is a Clinical Lead for the Ortho-Geriatric Service and Deputy Clinical Director of Elderly Medicine at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Ali Alraheem graduated from Damascus University, Syria, in 2003 with a degree in medicine and completed his training in general internal medicine.
In 2008, he moved to Saudi Arabia, where he practiced internal medicine with a special interest in diabetes and endocrinology.
In 2016, he relocated to the UK and entered the specialty training programme in diabetes and endocrinology, gaining experience across several NHS trusts in the East of England.
Dr Alraheem then joined Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology in 2024.

Key learning objectives
- To deepen understanding of the underlying pathophysiology of metabolic bone diseases, including identification of key risk factors in diverse patient populations.
- To strengthen clinical skills in the early identification, investigation, and evidence-based management of patients with or at risk of fragility fractures, including appropriate use of imaging, FRAX and pharmacology to optimise patient outcomes.
- To encourage integrated care planning by enhancing collaboration between specialties and promoting tailored, patient-focused interventions for improving long-term bone health.
