Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) – making the diagnosis and integrating it in to your service
Agenda
Born in Northern Ireland, Dr Patricia D. Jackson trained as a Paediatrician at Edinburgh University specialising in neuro-developmental assessment. Her previous role in NHS Lothian was the development and organisation of Learning Disability Services for children and young people. She established, and was the Clinical Lead for, the CEN NMCN (National Care Network in Scotland for Children with Exceptional Health Care Needs).
She co-chaired the SIGN (Scottish Intercollegiate Guideline Network) guideline group which published the first UK National Clinical guideline for children and young people exposed pre-natally to alcohol in 2019.
Dr Jackson continues teaching and researching, and has a special interest in FASD, and sleep in children and young people with additional support needs or neurodiversity. Her current teaching commitments include course development and tutoring for ‘Sleep Action’.
Dr Jackson also works with several children’s organisations on a voluntary basis and is Vice Chair of Down’s Syndrome Scotland and the Cattanach Trust, and a Trustee for ‘The Yard’ and Children’s Health Scotland.
