Meet the Speakers
Paula is the Senior Advanced Clinical Practitioner for the ADHD and Autism Service at South West
Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. The team was established in 2009 and Paula has worked
for the team for over 5 years.
She has over 35 years’ experience as a nurse, working with people with learning disabilities across a
variety of roles, including cancer and palliative care nursing, learning disability nursing, and ADHD
services. Paula also has 13 years’ experience as an independent non-medical prescriber and has a
specialist interest in STOMP (stopping over medication of people with a learning disability and autistic
people) and substance use.
Her role includes the assessment and diagnosis of ADHD and the initiation and titration of medication
as recommended by NICE. She is also the carers champion for the service and leads on service user
feedback.
John is an actor, ADHD and dyslexia advocate, and creator who speaks honestly about the realities of
neurodivergent adulthood. Growing up undiagnosed, he often felt he didn’t belong — in school,
society, or later, the workplace. As an adult, distractibility, burnout, and dyslexia made traditional
employment difficult, and he was frequently misunderstood, micromanaged, or quietly gaslit by
managers who mistook difference for failure. He also experienced periods of homelessness, which
further shaped his understanding of instability and resilience. Rather than internalising shame, John
began questioning the systems around him. He now sits on the UKAAN advisory board and works to
change the narrative around ADHD through awareness, storytelling, and community-led work. Having
built stability on his own terms, he shares a message of authenticity, strength, and possibility against
the odds.
Dr Mockett is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and a Fellow of the Royal College of
Psychiatrists working in all age learning disability service in Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Trust.
He specialises in neurodevelopmental conditions including severe intellectual disability, ASD and
ADHD. He has previously worked as the Associate Medical Director for Children’s Services.
Dr Mockett is an active medical educator. He is Training Programme Director in Intellectual Disabilities
for Health Education England North West. He contributes to the training of pre-and post-qualification
doctors, nurses and psychologists. He has a wide portfolio of presentations, nationally and
internationally focusing on audit and research in neurodevelopmental conditions.
Dr Mockett is the Vice Chair North West of the Regional North of England Mental Health Act Approval
Panel.
Dr Mockett assesses and treats whole-life neurodevelopmental conditions, ADHD and ASD through
his own clinic. Dr Mockett prepares specialist legal reports in neurodevelopmental disorders for CM
Medico-legal for both criminal and specialist negligence claims.
Dr Syed Murtaza Naqvi is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Medical Lead for the
Children and Young People’s Neurodevelopmental Team at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust.
He leads neurodevelopmental disorders pathways, with interests in evidence-based prescribing and
neuroinclusive service design.
A Royal College of Psychiatrists award winner and gold-medal graduate. His publications include a
NICE-aligned ADHD prescribing summary and work on supporting carers. His focus is fairer access,
safer care and sustainable workforce development across ICB systems.
Dr Will Daw is a Paediatric Sleep and Respiratory Consultant at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Having
worked in paediatrics since 2007, he developed a specialist interest in sleep medicine in 2018 and now
supports children and families facing a wide range of sleep challenges particularly those living with
ADHD and neurodevelopmental conditions.
Will completed an MD in respiratory monitoring in children and has published widely, including work
on respiratory issues in children with Down syndrome. Passionate about demystifying paediatric
sleep, he regularly teaches and speaks on the topic, aiming to give clinicians the tools and confidence
to recognise and manage common sleep problems in practice.
